Pitch Perfect (2012)

“Hands in aca-bitches”

I can remember seeing the trailer for Pitch Perfect over the summer when I saw some movie. I thought it looked pretty good especially at the part in the trailer where Rebel Wilson says her character’s name is Fat Amy. Ever since seeing the trailer over the summer I have wanted to see Pitch Perfect and now that it has been released on DVD I finally got around to seeing the movie.
Beca (Anna Kendrick) is a freshman at Barden College where her dad is a professor. She has passion for music and makes her own song mash ups. Beca really wants to give up school and head out to Los Angeles to try to make it in the music business but her father wants her to give college a try and make some friends. They come to a decision that if Beca can give college a try her father will pay for her to live in LA.
While walking around campus Beca comes across the acapella group the Barden Bellas. The Bellas are run by Aubrey (Anna Camp) and Chloe (Brittany Snow). Aubrey really wants to make it to the finals again after they bombed the year before when she projectile vomited on stage at the Lincoln Center in New York City.  Beca does not want anything to do with a group like that the girls are definitely not her type. Later on while taking a shower in the dorm showers Beca starts singing not thinking anyone else is in there. Out of nowhere Chloe barges in and proclaims that Beca can sing and should try out. Cornered naked in the shower Beca agrees to go to try outs.
Beca makes the group as well as some other girls who are not exactly the most popular or pretty including Fat Amy (Rebel Wilson). Aubrey is very controlling and wants things to go her way. All the songs they sing are from the previous century there are no current songs which Beca knows is a mistake.
Of course down the road issues come up and the Bellas almost do not get their then, what a shock, they do! Quirky Beca helps to make the Bellas current and fun.
The cast was really good. Anna Kendrick is so good as an actress and as a singer. I am very happy that over the past few years she has been able to break away from her awful character in the stupid Twilight movies (I have seen the first Twilight and I unfortunately read the books and her character Jessica was annoying as hell. I know what I am talking about here). Kendrick had the perfect look for her character and played the attitude aspect very well. Rebel Wilson is in the movie. No matter what she did in her scenes she completely stole the whole movie. From the moment she comes on screen you are just laughing like crazy. Elizabeth Banks played an announcer who was a pointless character but was so damn funny. Banks along with Rebel Wilson stole the movie. She can do no wrong in my eyes. Anna Camp is adorable. She was perfect as the lead of a group called The Bellas. No matter how many other things I have seen Camp in she will always be Reverend Newlin’s wife haha. Brittany Snow was alright she is not a very good actress and she did not stand out.
All the characters were the stereotypical characters of any teen movie but mixed together made modern they were all very funny and entertaining. Since the actors were all great in their parts none of their characters got boring or too much.
I was actually surprised that I wound up thinking Pitch Perfect was funny and actually very well done. I have sworn off teen movies they just get worse and worse but this is one of the best I have seen in a long time. Pitch Perfect is a lot of fun to watch and some of the scenes and lines are witty and biting and hilarious.
