“Whatever
happens tomorrow, we had today.”
For some reason I like stories about people who have a
connection to each other despite being complete opposites… only if they are
done right, which does not always happen. Despite being a bit boring One Day was one story about opposites
that was done right.
On college graduation day July 15, 1989 two students,
Emma (Anne Hathaway) and Dexter (Jim Sturges) meet for the first time. They
have a one- night stand and agree to just remain friends.
Over the next sixteen years we see Emma and Dexter either
together or apart on the anniversary of them becoming friends. Emma is an aspiring
writer whose success comes years later. Dexter becomes a successful T.V. presenter,
never really settles down, and gets into drugs. One year Emma and Dexter
finally get together and they get married.
Being a chick flick, One
Day has a bitter sweet ending.
As I said, despite being a little bit boring One Day was not bad it has a good story
of two opposite people meeting and realizing they do love each other. The
characters were actually decent for a chick flick. Actually, the whole story
and the way it played out was decent for a chick flick. I have to admit as much
as I hate chick flicks I did not really hate One Day. Along with the story Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturges’s
acting helped. One Day is worth
watching at least once.
