“Welcome to the weirdness. I'm just trying to navigate a course towards
safety and sanity best way I know how.”
I
am a firm believer that certain people are supposed to come into our lives at
times when we most need them even if we do not realize we need them. It does
not matter what age these people are who come into our lives be them babies or
senior citizens. So many people have come into my life that have either made it
a living hell or made it better. I take all of these meetings, good and bad, as
a life learning experience. Through certain people I have either found some
things out about myself or they have put me on the path of who I want to be.
With certain friends and family members I have experienced things, also both
good and bad, that I never would have experienced. I am eternally grateful for
every person who has come into my life.
The
movie Like Sunday, Like Rain puts a twelve-year-old
kid and a woman in their twenties together at a time in their lives when they
most needed each other’s kindness, understanding, and intellect.
Reggie
is a child prodigy. He is extremely smart and excels at whatever he puts his
mind to. He is also a very privileged kid who lives in the very wealthy area of
New York City in a large apartment. Reggis attends a private school that he
kind of sees as a joke. Instead of paying attention in math class he stares out
the window but when called on he immediately knows the answer and even gives
another example. His mother does not even really pay attention to him. She is
always bossing Reggie around and seems to only care for herself. She tells
Reggie that she is going to Japan to see his father for the summer and that he
will have a different nanny watching him than the one that usually does.
Eleanor
(Leighton Meester) lives in Brooklyn with her crappy boyfriend Dennis (Billie
Joe Armstrong). She decides to break things off with him and he is not too
happy about it. He goes to the coffee shop where Eleanor works and makes a big
scene. The owner of the coffee shop kicks both Dennis and Eleanor out. Without
any place to go Eleanor stays at her friend’s apartment and the friend tells
her to look into this nannying agency. She does so and immediately gets the job
of looking after Reggie.
Eleanor
and Reggie get along almost right away. She craves intellect after the disaster
of Dennis and how her family lives in upstate New York and he craves normalcy. They
are the perfect fit as they both understand each other in ways nobody else in
their lives can.
Like Sunday, Like Rain is excellent. It is
so refreshing to watch a movie that was not a love story. There was no girl
needing a guy to feel better about herself and vice versa. It was a kind and
caring and sympathetic story of a kid who needed to be a kid in some ways and
also to be loved and a girl who wanted to get away from her current
circumstances and be a better person. Everything about this story was done so
well. It was a perfect story of two people coming together when it was most
needed in their lives. Leighton Meester and Julian Shatkin who played Reggie
were perfect together. Shatkin plays a prodigy and he is a prodigy himself with
his acting. I was floored by how awesome he was.
I
think I have said all that I needed to say about Like Sunday, Like Rain. It is such a great movie and one that your
rarely see being made. I cannot recommend watching Like Sunday, Like Rain more highly. It is currently available to
view on Netflix.
